Latest addition to my fabric stash - 3 fat quarter bundles!

Last week I was in the mood of buying fabric. I mean, I am always in the mood, but usually before finally buying I spend a few days adding and deleting items in my online cart. I guess is a good strategy to not go bankrupt. I ended up with this. No regrets.

1- Robin Sunshine Rose by Tanya Whelan for Free Spirits. What a romantic collection, I can't resist florals in blue background. I dream of a bedroom entirely made with it.

2- Au Revoir Cherie by Frances Newcombe for Art Gallery Fabrics. I was caught by the ladies faces print, hands down. But, when I closely saw each print of the collection I added a couple more of favorites.

3- Bounjor Cherie by Frances Newcombe for Art Gallery Fabrics. So clever, change the backgound colors and you have a completely different look on each print. My favs can't bee the same prints of Au Revoir. Can you guess which ones they are?

I'm feeling fully inspired.  I'd love to know more about your favs lately, your new additions or wish lists. We always have some prints that inspire us and  bring new ideas.

***I bought all three fat quarter bundles on Fat Quarter Shop. Although FQS is a sponsor I chose and bought all of them on my own. BTW, there is a sale going on right now. To take advantage use the coupon code RK2014 and take 20% off all Robert Kaufman fabrics. Good shopping!

Hy everyone! I've told earlier that in celebration of the Sewing and Quilting National month I've accepted a challenge proposed by Fat Quarter Shop/ Jolly Jabber, that's making something I've never  made before.

I can list a few things I've made in the past years. Some of them still are a little scary to me, but, at least I tried it a couple of times in my sewing/quilting career like applique (who is not a bit afraid of applique raise your hands!), curve rulers (made two blocks, well not enough to make the whole quilt I was planning...), English paper hexagons sewn by hand (not afraid anymore, not a bit!).

I also used to make bags and run a small business for some years while living in Brazil. The bags were made not only with fabrics, but I used to mix all sort of materials like vinyl and even leather. A bit intimidating, isn't it? Well my list could go on and on. Oh boy, almost forgot! I've even made a dress for myself!

Well it seems I've faced a good list of scary little things in the sewing and quilting world... but, there is always something we end up avoiding.

I've been afraid of sewing with elastics for a long, long time.  Recently my daughter asked if I could sew a skirt to her. It was time of stopping of being afraid of a little girl's request... (special thanks to Kimberly and team!) and I faced it! (I feel like a super hero that just raised the cape with hands and flew, hahaha)

I chose my favorite fabrics of the moment for the skirt. As you may know I LOVE Pat Bravo designs... so, those two prints were staring at me for quite a while waiting for a project. The skirt design is very simple so I decided to make a belt. I also sewed a white velvet ribbon along the joins of the tiers to give it a little something else.

Fabrics: Pure Elements Tender Green (Belt), Nouvelle Sapphire Femme Metale (bottom of the skirt) and Nouvelle Radiance Disty (top of the skirt) , all of them by Pat Bravo for Art Gallery Fabrics.  You can find the fabrics at Fat Quarter Shop.

Of course, the elastic not being my best friend decided to fold inside the waistband giving me some work to straighten it up, but I think it was my bad using a large elastic.

Overall, I REALLY liked making this skirt and sewing with elastic (not calling it a enemy anymore, haha). I'm excited to try now pants for my little boy, with elastic on the waist, of course!

Check other friends met challenges all month long! Melanie of I heart Stitching will be also sharing her project and experience today! Here's the schedule for this week.

Fabric GIVEAWAY! (+ two finishes + news on shipping!)

Hello everyone! I've at least three subjects in this post so I hope you hang in there because it's good stuff to share!
This week I couldn't resist Color My Heart, free pattern by Fat Quarter Shop/JollyJabber, and I made it in two different ways. The original pattern calls for one charm pack, and besides making one heart with 5" squares I also had to try the pattern with a mini charm pack, that is 2 1/2" squares! It worked perfectly, the pattern is so straight forward that it was like making the same best cooking recipe you already now, but with half of the ingredients!

I'm definitely going to hang this small version in my sewing room...

This other heart I made with one Vintage Happy charm pack by Lori Holt, but had to add some other prints since the charm pack had less squares than required by this pattern.

I think this heart make Clarice's coloring nook much more colorful and interesting...

I had a lot of fun making both of them, but I have to confess the smaller one is my favorite. The quilting in the bigger heart gave me a lot of pain, literally, in my shoulders! It was hard to quilt those swirls (not a pro for sure), I was completely out of my mind when I decided to make it! As you see far from being perfect.

Now, the desert comes! Fat Quarter Shop is given away the must have collection of the moment: a FAT QUARTER BUNDLE of Far, far Away by Heather Ross!!! They also have other good news, scroll down!

Have You heard Fat Quarter Shop have new rates on shipping? When I say new I also say LOWER rates! Click in the image bellow to get all the juicy details in their shipping information page.

Color My Heart - Free pattern by Fat Quarter Shop

Hi friends! I hope you all had an amazing holiday! We enjoyed this weekend having over some friends and letting the kids play as much as they could. It was fun!

Well, I have really good stuff to share today. We're celebrating the National Sewing and Quilting Month. The super Fat Quarter Shop team came up with a couple of sweet ideas! First, they chose some bloggers to celebrate this month making sewing and quilting projects we haven't done before. So, next week I'm gonna show you what I've planned in the past couple of weeks...

I've got this heart from FQS team. I'm so honored! It says why I love quilting...

I'm gonna talk more about that later.  Don't miss all the bloggers special posts for this month, their projects and stories. See the full list here or at the end of this post.

Second, because we wanna spread love everywhere this month, FQS team have created this easy yet so adorable pattern. Free, free and free! (click here or on the image below to get the pdf) Then, share, share and share!

When I saw the pattern for the first time last week I couldn't stop thinking I wanted to make the heart with the same charm pack, the New Bright Kona Cotton Solids. Because I didn't have the fabric in my hands and it'd take a few days to get the fabric I had an idea... huuummm... hang in there and I'm gonna show you my heart  this week (or hearts, who knows?) ! One is almost done, just saying ;-)

If you wanna join the chain of love during September, grab your favorite charm pack and make in no time your Color my heart block/quilt. It's a big size 27 1/2" x 27 1/2". You could finish it as a mini quilt, a pillow, a doll quilt, a play mat, you could hang or frame it... can you feel my excitement? Can't wait to show you my hearts!

So, please, enjoy!
